This is a homemade boat motor made out of a lawn mower engine. We got an old outboard leg and attached a lawn mower engine to the top of it. We installed a throttle handle, along with a kill switch on the handle bar. Works great!

It is a shame that it doesn’t have a centrifugal clutch on it because that would mean that the prop would only engage when the engine got to a certain rpm range.

No we do not have a way to disengage it. So when we start the engine, we take off right away. It would be perfect if there would be a way to install a transmission or clutch to have your idea work.

On the lower unit out drive. when you start the engine do you have the prop disengaged then when the engine is running you engage the prop? There is a lever on the outboard.

Use an old lower unit from an outboard, you can get them pretty cheap at outboard junkyards.

Yea i know. That is the next step on our project. The power of the engine actually wore down the inside of the plastic trolling motor, so its on to the bigger aluminum prop we have. We just have to figure out how to attach it now.

Not much speed increase, mainly due to the small prop. Its probably just cavitating. Did you ever get a bigger prop?

I don’t have the exact ratio, but the engine is a 6.25 horsepower lawn mower engine. The prop is just a small trolling motor prop. were hoping to get a bigger prop on it soon to increase the speed! ans sorry for accidentally deleting your comment lol
