It’s all about Chicken Tractors

July 6th, 2009 · No Comments

Ian Maranon asked:

Chicken tractors, or a chicken ark as it is sometimes called, are easy to build. You can build it yourself to save money, but you will need good chicken tractor plans to make sure it is built solidly and has all the features necessary so that your chickens will be happy and comfortable.

Chicken tractors are types of coop that protects your chickens from the weather and predators but is has no floor and it can be moved effortlessly around the yard. They are lightweight and portable. Some people even put wheels on one end to make it easier to move. The portability and small size of the tractors make them the ideal solution for those just getting started in raising chickens.

Any chicken eggs that are laid there are also protected. Within the tractor, the chickens are able to rummage on the grass, weeds and bugs. Allowing the chickens to forage this way helps reduce the amount of feed that you have to buy. Another advantage of tractors is that you don’t have to keep any floors clean. You also get lots of manure or compost to use for your garden. Installing a chicken tractor mimics cycle of free ranging chickens foraging in one location at a time and moving on to another area so that the first area can recover.

One chicken tractor is meant for two to four chickens, allowing four square feet for each chicken. You can fill your whole backyard in just short period of time with this rate. Chickens in the tractor are also safe from predators or any enemies.  Of course, nothing is definite, so you still should keep an eye on the chickens in the tractor.
